Front desk agents are expected to be familiar with the checking-in and out process. They must know how to answer phones, direct calls, place people on hold, and answer any question a guest might have. They are required to monitor the email, keep track of guest requests and direct them accordingly, and run reports such as arrivals, credit checks and guest balance reports. They also handle specialty amenities for birthdays or other special occasions.

The main requirement you must have for this position is a good attitude and work ethic. You do not need any prior experience in this position and you do not need any educational requirements. You must be open to learning, and have a positive and outgoing attitude towards guests and co-workers.

Starting pay is $10 an hour. Night audit receives $12 an hour. If you are part-time, you do not receive any benefits through the company. You do get special team member rates at other Valencia properties and get good deals for friends and family. However, if you are full-time, you are guaranteed 40 hours a week, and receive benefits such as PTO and insurance. The hotel is looking to build a team, and promotions are almost always done internally. If you are looking to move up in the industry, there is tons of opportunity here.

I have learned so much at my time here at The George. I had no hotel experience when I began, only a few customer service jobs I had held previously. I learned all of the basis, such as check-in and check-out procedures, answering phones and writing pass-ons each night. I also learned many other skills that I will be to take with me into every other job I take in the future. I learned more about customer service than I ever have before. I learned the importance of employee empowerment, and I learned a lot about guest recovery. I am especially proud of my success in this position, and my promotion to Front Office Supervisor.
